In Memory

Chris Hammond

Chris Hammond Passed away September 10, 2021. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Christopher Lee Hammond, 60, New Albany, Indiana, passed away at Baptist Health Floyd on Friday September 10, 2021, after being diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain cancer. He was born on February 20, 1961 in New Albany, Indiana to the late Hearld Hammond and Genevieve “Genny” (Wimsatt) Hammond. Chris had just celebrated his tenth wedding anniversary with the light of his life, his loving wife Lori this past June. Chris was a business owner and ran his own car dealership for many years. To say that was his only business would be an understatement. He was known to be an ambitious entrepreneur. Chris was a man of character, extremely honest and genuine. If he couldn’t fix the car he was working on, he was known to return the money. Chris always had several irons in the fire, and he didn’t like to sit down too often. When his wife Lori could kidnap him and force him to go on a vacation, he always managed to have a good time. Chris had a uniquely sensitive heart and was a gentle soul. He adored his family and made many priceless memories with the “Hammond Army”. While the family is heartbroken to lose him, they know that he is with the Lord, and what a reunion there was in Heaven when he reunited with his mom and dad welcoming their one and only “Jethro” home with open arms. Left to cherish his memory; love of his life, Lori (Diercks) Hammond; his beloved dogs, Buster, Jackson, and Lilly; brothers, Garry Hammond (Pat), Danny Hammond (Alma), and Tom Hammond (Rochelle); sisters, Rose King (Nathan), Bev Schmidt (Mike), Suzie Masden (Mike), Kathy Brown (Mike), Annette Kay (Chris), Lois Wadsworth, Judy Ouellette (Bob), Lisa Hillerich (Bob), Laura Howard (Bruce),and Donna Koopman (Everett); and many nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, and great greats that it is practically impossible to count them all. Visitation and funeral services will be held at Northside Christian Church in the West Auditorium located behind the church at 4407 Charlestown Road, New Albany, IN. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021 from 2pm-8pm and Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 10, with the celebration of life service at 11:00am.

Had some great memories of Chris in school and out.  He was a good hearted person.

Always had a smile on his face.

Chris and I were pretty good friends in grade school and junior high. We lived within bicycle distance of each other around Galena and often slept over at each other's houses. We also played on the same little league team and he was the best player every year.

i don't recall him being anything other than a friendly, pleasant guy. I'm saddened to hear of his passing so soon.
